Η δεκαετία του 70 είχε ανάγκη μια πιο φρέσκια μουσική. Η Soul, η Jazz, τα Blues μπαίνουν πλέον σε πιο ηλεκτρικό και σκληρό ήχο και αρχίζουν και γεννούν νέα ακούσματα. Όλα τα μουσικά ρεύματα, παλιά και νέα, ενισχύθηκαν με παρουσίες μουσικών συγκροτημάτων που για πάντα θα ακούγονται : Art rock, Hard rock, Progressive rock, Blues rock , Soft rock, Punk rock και φτάνουμε στην Heavy metal.
Τα κομμάτια που ακολουθούν είναι κάποια από αυτά που χαρακτήρισαν την δεκαετία. Πολλά ήταν πολύ μπροστά για την εποχή τους και ακόμα και σήμερα φαίνονται φρέσκα. Έχουν διασκευαστεί από πολλούς καλλιτέχνες και έχουν εμπνεύσει ακόμα περισσότερους.
